FAQ

1) How can I correct my address?

Go to the California Firearms Application Reporting System (CFARS) web site: https://cfars.doj.ca.gov/ and create an account, login and choose Automated Forearms System (AFS) Personal Information Update. They will need the information from one of your DROS registrations to help confirm your identify to DOJ.

2) How can I check the status of my ammunition background check?

Go to the California Firearms Application Reporting System (CFARS) web site:
https://cfars.doj.ca.gov/ You will need your Ammunition Transaction Number (DROS) and your date of birth.

3) Does doing the $19 background check create an entry in the AFS system so I can do a $1 background check next time? If not, how can I do that?

No, it does not. Buy a gun in CA and wait 10 days for the firearm background check or register a gun you have already using the CFARS website.
